Distributor on properly?

Just bought this 1974 c10 stepside short bed. It's on a rebuilt 350. Does it look like the distributor is in the wrong position? It runs fine and smooth, just making sure I'm not missing out on any power.

Welcome. It doesn't appear correct to me, but, don't hold me to that. It could possibly be incorrect, not for sure.

It's hard to say just by looking at the cap. But it looks as if someone advanced it as far as they could, I would get a timing light on it. I'll post a link on timing in a minute but it can be found in the tech section of the site

Thanks, I'm not much of a mechanic. Thankfully my dad is. It runs good, he just noticed it looked weird and thought maybe it could give us some power.

gennerally the more advance you can make it the more power you can make. but then you can advance it too much and it will hurt performance.

You need to check the timing with a proper timing light. The distributor may have been installed one tooth off.

Off topic, but area that Ford DID get it right was to put the distributor up front.
And Buick.

Couple thing, first find where #1 wire is. You could easily move a wire one counter clockwise and rotate the distributor clockwise back to is current position if you want it to look a certain way.

Doesn't make any difference where the #1 wire is as long as it's followed by 8,4,3,6,5,7 and 2 and as long as the #1 wire position on the dist. is timed to the #1 piston being at TDC...…. may look weird the way it is but the motor doesn't know it.
