so im looking into buying a new to me crewcab truck its a 89 2wheel 3500 for 950 , its got the 454 and an auto trans , I have some questions about the truck before i buy it though , if i wanted to make this truck a standard trans what all would i have to do? also how hard would it be to make it 4x4 , I am very mechanically inclined and welding and fab work isnt a problem for me , when i was younger i built 4 4x4 tube chassis trucks for me an my buddys as a graduation project

Welcome to the site from NW Indiana. Your quest is do-able but a whole lot of work. You almost would need a parts truck to do it right. You might as well wait and find exactly what you want or buy the 89 and drive it until you find the 4x4 4 speed. My $.02

well I would but up here in pa trying to find a crew cab of any sort is near impossible unless your like my buddy alby whos got 9 of them but theyre all 2 wheel drive and autos , and Ive always gone by what my father used to say before he passed which was anybody can buy a truck its the real men who build their own and besides I want the dually rear

I looked for 3 years before I found my V3500! That was getting on Craigslist and some other sites I know at least every week and seeing if anything new cropped-up. 2WD and dually is by far the most common for the crews. To change to a manual trans wouldn't be that hard, but the 4X4 chassis has a lot of differences than the 2WD version. It depends on what you want to do with it. If it is going to be come a Truggy then fab away! If you want this to be a somewhat factory looking truck with everything operational, then you will probably have a lot of heartache.
