Weird seat
« on: June 27, 2008, 10:40:28 PM »
Ok, so the stock seat in my 76 is just a regular bench...but I found another seat that Im going to replace the bech with.  Its got identical mounting points, but its more like a bucket seat style (individual back rest, but the seat is shared, and its got a folding console)

ANYWHO I want to find new uhpolstery for this seat but Im not sure what its even out of.  its a stock GM seat from a 76 something.  any help would be appreciated

looks like it came out of a 70's Dodge truck to me...

edit, looking at old Dodge brochures, it kinda looks like it came out of a late 70's Dodge Charger...or Dodge car...

different upholstery, but it looks like the same seat...

that seat looks interesting...haven't seen one like it before, but it does have a Mopar look to it...also, you could have an upholstery shop reshape the foam in the front center like the picture I posted, and it would look more like bucket seats if that's what you'd like...a good upholstery shop should be able to redesign a seat like you want it more extreme than that...so if you want them to shape the foam and re pattern the bottom cover to fit it and they can't, keep looking because that's something easy and minor, but will make the seat look better IMO...also, down here in SC, it should not cost more than $800 dollars to recover that seat with cloth surfaces and vinyl trim...and that's including reshaping the foam...that seat has SOOOO much potential it's ridiculous...I would love to have that seat...if you want, I can PS the picture like I would do it...anyways, if you have anymore questions just shoot...

Chuck.

Looks like an Old JC Whitney Universal Truck replacement seats from 1977 to early 80's.....   I remember a neighbor when I was little, that had bought a few similar pairs, for two Old Forrestry Service Trucks he had bought from a State Auction....

...quite possible that it was aftermarket 20 years ago.   I'll just have to haul it down to my interior guys in town and see how much they want to recover it in blue cloth and black vinal.
Fits perfectly in my truck, and I quite like how it feels so I dotn think I will be reshaping the foam.  Trying to keep costs down.  so Far im into the truck for 300$ including the cost of the truck
