Which set of these rims do i need for my 85 C-10?
« on: March 23, 2012, 08:10:50 AM »
Hey everyone first time here on the forums. been reading alot of threads on here. I am fairly new to fixing up trucks. I am about to fix up my dad's old 85 C-10 I am wanting to put a set of American Racing Baja's on it. Right now, dad says they have either 15-7's or 15-8's on it. I don't like the way the tires sit inside the wheel wells so far. especially on the back; but I don't want to go up to 10's in the back because i'd still like to rotate. What size would be right for the situation? I posted the link to all the one's summit carries. I would like to go have bigger rims like a 17 so it shows more rim and get the tire size to match what it would have with 15's but I am not sure what backspace or bolt pattern I need but I'm pretty sure its a 6 x 5.5. Any help is appreaciate

I am assuming here that the 85 c10 is in the stock ride height still ?  No alterations have been done.  So the bolt pattern you have now is 6 x 5.5 correct.
You want a 17" rim that will work on all 4 corners so that you can rotate and still have the tires turn in front without hitting.
What is the size of tire (not rim ) that you have on truck now ?  If I read your post correctly, you want the look of a bigger rim and the overall size of rim and tire to be taller ?  How about wider ?  If you can answer these questions someone can give you tire sizes to fit the rims you want.

I am away from the truck at the moment but If I'm not mistaken It has 235/70/15's on it. and they are running 7" wide or 8" wide. I found another forum on here talking about the 7" look ridiculous because the fender almost eats the wheels because they sit so far inside the fender wells. I would like to go wider but don't want them rubbing the fender wells. I used to have a 93 S-10 with 8's on it and it looked sharp but I had about lost about 10 degrees in turn radius because they tires would rub the insides of the fender wells.

I want a to go more rim less tire, one the tires are too big for it now the Speedometer is 5+ miles off. I want to lower the truck a few inches to give it a tighter stance but don't want to start out with the tires to big that it prevents me from dropping it enough because the tires will rub.

and the truck is still pretty stock. It has a brand new 350 motor in with less than 8,000 miles on it. I plan on putting some nice rims on it, new tires, dropping it some, putting some mufflers on it, and painting it.

actually I have a prime example of what I'm looking for. the forums logo is close the same year model and everything... I want that kind of stance just not super deep wheels like it has pictured and the wheels tucked. I just want the wheels maybe an inch from the top of the outer fender well (the part you see from the outside).

UPDATE: i went looking for the stance I was looking for. This is the closest I could find. just an inch higher so the wheels don't tuck at all, with the same overall size in the front that is in the back. maybe the rim size thats in the front but the overall size of whats in the back? hope that makes sense.

As soon as members see this post you will be flooded with responses, there a lot of people here that like lowered rides.  I actually am a 4x4 guy, but the next truck after my 74 build is going to be a 2wd that I plan on lowering it and making it real fast.
Give it some time and you will get response's.  In the mean time look around, there are several threads on tire width's and lowered trucks.  Use the search feature at the top right of the page.
Good luck and post pics when you can.

The truck that you posted a pic of looks to have a 20 and 22" rim combo. If you intend to keep the tire visible 17's won't leave a lot of room for rubber if you plan to lower the truck at all. Unless you aren't concerned with ride quality. Keep in mind that the bigger rim and tire combo you get the more power it will take to turn them. i noticed a fairly dramatic loss in power with the little bit bigger I went with.
Here is a link to my project thread
http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php/topic,12330.msg93029.html#msg93029
the first pic on the first page is a 15x8 rim with 265/70/15 front and back
The front is lowered 2" the back isn't done in that pic.
The second pic is with a 15x7 rim with 235/75/15 tires.
hope this helps..

I'm looking at running 17's  (or maybe 19's at most) and lowering it to give it that kind of stance. I don't want 20-22's on it by no means. I like how the tires altogether feel out the wheel well and make the ride look better but I would rather have more that same overall size with more rubber instead of 20-22" of rim. I'll see if I can't find a better picture.

UPDATE: AH here is the kind of ride I'm looking of building. thats the right tire size and rim size I'm looking for.

So you have an 85 C-10 6x5.5 bolt pattern?  :o

C-10 are 5 lug 5x5 and if you want the same size up front and out back with the correct looking track then get 2" spacers for the rear.

The only 5 lug pattern for these trucks were 5x5 or 5x127mm and all C10's in this body style were 5x5

K10's are 6 lug

C/K 20 & 30 are 8 lug

Me and my dad measured it yesterday and it was 5 x 5. And the back spacing is 3 3/4"

UPDATE: I been doing some looking and some math. The 85's orginally came with 195/70/15's on them (please correct me if i'm wrong) and it has 235/70/15's on it now. so If I go with a 17" rim I would have to run 235/60/17's to get the same overall size and the same overall speed difference (if the speedometer reads 60 i'm actually doing like 65.5mph). The blue truck above does it look like there running this size tire or did they go with a smaller tire, the site I found it at had no info about the truck. In my opinion they look smaller.  I greatly appreciate the help guys.

Here's mine with more tire/less wheel. 15x8 wheels, 255/70-15 front, 315/70-15 rear.
Lower 4/6, but the rear tires give a bit of a rake.

That's pretty nice man, I don't want near that much tire. Considering how much it's going to cost for the wheels and the tires I may go with 15's to save money. It has 15's on it now and they look good too
