I recently bought a 1984 K20 with a 6.2 diesel and 700 R4. I got it cheap, and anticipate doing alot of mods and repairs. I took it to my mechanic for initial inspection and servicing, and he tells me the diff housing is full of metal shavings and the posi unit is destroyed. He also told me this is a very light-duty 3/4 axle, that i should go to a full floater if possible. Questions I am hoping you guys can help with:
What year 3/4 ton truck and Suburban axles will bolt in?
Is the standard axle set-up that lame? (Know this- I am going to install the Banks turbo kit, which allegedly increases torque and horsepower by about 50%- which will still be gutless compared to my 2006 Duramax. Probably about 200 HP and 370 ft/lbs if I am lucky))
We have to verify but it seems very likely it has 3:42 gears and they are not common in the big full-floating units.
Really appreciate any help I can get!
