New guy just grabbed a 1980 3/4
« on: February 19, 2021, 12:38:30 PM »
Hey guys I'm new here ,I've had many square bodys in the past but the one I just got is kinda cool.
Not quite sure what I'm gonna do with it yet.
So I just grabbed up a 1980 chevy 3/4 ton 454 manuel 4x4
I'm not much of a "small truck" guy but I've had a ton of people already stop at my house trying to buy it.
So the truck itself is Rusty the doors and fenders are great everything else is junk . I bought it for a possible frame swap to go under my 1956 caddy project (mad max style)
But I'm being told this is a much wanted truck in this configuration. Can you guys tell me if this truck is worth getting a new cab and bed.... And redoing it or should I just move on to my project.
I was told the t case is chain drivin I haven't got to looking yet what I have the 454 was just put in it the recent owner blew the 350 apart mudding the truck  the 454 has 56000 miles on it came out of a motor home .
I just don't know what to do with it .

A little about me ... I restore /modify anything I can get my hands on . currently building a 1938 caddy was a 4 door now a 2 door 3" chop shortened body suicide doors air ride small block chevy 5 speed  cars name is sinner .
I'm also helping my helper build his first car 79 camaro I bought for him out if a junk yard .
There's a few other cars kicking around here like the 56 caddy mentioned above and a 67 lemans getting a 4.8 Ls twin turbo setup
And now this chevy just got here .
I could go ether way on it as I wanted a old bulldozer to put under the caddy but this truck setup seems Stout!

Hey man, first off welcome! You're my kind of animal!

As these trucks become more and more scarce, well, you know the drill.

I make mental notes of where I see them languishing, and when I do my drive by's, more and more they're disappearing.

That's a great package, find out what xfer case you have though.

Yeah gotta get the cab off it's about junk as is bed . I know where there s a few rust free beds a guy is hording I'm sure a cab can be had fairly easy
We will see what I bought  I hate buying site in seen (night time) but the guy I got it from seemed like a str8 shooter the rv he stole the motor from was sitting there with no motor so I said screw it I'll take it . My poor wife was sitting in suv waiting for me to come back (I was there buying a slide for my kid) come back she said gezz why so long to buy a slide for $50 I said well I bought a truck too!
Very quiet Valentine's dinner we had!
