Found a couple of old videos of my daughter learning to drive in the truck when she was 11 back in '09. Was curious what did you guys learn to drive in?
I learned originally in a 1978 Lincoln Versailles and a 1977 Chevy C10.
Here's my daughter driving around the yard back in the day.

My mom and dad started me off letting me sit in their lap and drive the car home once we got into the neighborhood. My girl got her start driving golf carts n lawn mowers around.
Pic of her n tractor n truck is when her and her friend were playing on the tractor and left the lights turned on and killed the battery. So When I found it dead I had her move the truck down there and showed her how to jump start it. She did it all by herself with me only coaching. I was proud of her on that one.
Then after she jumped the tractor off she wanted to know how to drive it so I had her plow that years peanut patch. And all at 12 years old.

1988 Ranger 5 speed. Started at the age of 8 because my legs were finally long enough to push the clutch and to long to sit in dad's lap. Worked great for him because he could ride and enjoy the miller high life in the passenger seat as i flew through the Mississippi river bottoms. Dang the memories!!

My Dad would let me shift his 1972 Pinto when I was about 10. Learned how to drive on a 1975 Granada. Little did I know I got the worst car I ever drove out of the way quickly.
-
My mom had a 92 Plymouth Voyager when me and my sister were kids. It lasted a few years before it started having transmission issues stopping it from shifting reliably. So it got parked. When I was 15 me and my best friend jump started it and drug it out of the backyard. We cut the exhaust off and beat the living crap out of it. It had 1st, 2nd, and reverse. I was pretty good at sliding it around the fields with the foot E-brake 8) good times. It eventually broke and axle shaft after getting just a little bit airborne.
On the actual roads when I got my learner permit it was my 77 C10(bought 2 years after my 16th bday). Even though I could hardly afford to drive it cause gas was so expensive. It looks nothing like it did back then in 2006 but I still drive it.
First manual on the road was my stepdads 98 Dodge Dakota V8 with a Hurst shifter and glass packs. Loud and fun to shift. Good times

Although i'm not what you would call a F*%d guy I love the sound of a flat V8.... That Fury is an awesome car! always thought they looked clean.

Good stuff! I miss my old truck sometimes even though the one I have now is 85% better. 8)

My dad’s 68 Impala, felt like a boat, had a lot of bondo, but those were the good old days.

Astonishing fact i realized last night:
i have NEVER driven a big block in a car. This includes buick/pontiac/olds engines larger than 400 CID.
The only big block i have ever driven was in a medium duty u-haul truck and it was only 366 cid.
i have NEVER driven an engine larger than 366 CID!
This may be why i feel a 4.3 v-6 is "adequate" for a 1/2 truck......?

Biggest I ever drove in a car was a 73 caprice with a 400sb... no big blocks.
Only big block Ive ever driven was a 330ci or so in a 1970 ford f700.
Never thought about it but now I feel like I been missing out. ;)

Made me remember a story my mom n dad told me. When I was 3 or so Mom n dad were washing their 64 impala ss and put me in it so they could get the washing done. well I pulled the gear lever out of park and it rolled down the driveway and into the neighbors yard. They slowed it down they said grabbing and pulling so I didn't hit his house. It didn't have a foot brake interlock and a console shifter. They never left me in the impala or old mustang again. They would let me sit in the old white truck though. 77 c10 auto. It had a shift lock. Maybe thats why I loved that truck so much! 8)

My brother did the same thing, pulled the gear shifter on my parents '62 Olds Dynamic 88. Rolled 10 feet into our neighbors car, slight crunch, could have been much worse. He was 3.
On big blocks, my first truck was a '57 Apache with a 235 inline 6 cylinder. Slooooow poke. Max torque at 2000 RPM.
Next ride, '69 Chevy Caprice, 2 door, Landau top, concealed headlights, 396 BB, I bought for 300 in '78. Drove it cross country.
Loved that car... :'(

And let me add, I also let my 79 Z28 roll down my folks driveway into the neighbors yard. Wiped out some bushes, which I had to replace. I didn’t actually “let” it roll....
Oh, and 78 chevyrado, the 64 Impala SS is one of my all time favorites!

It was a pretty car. I didn;t let it roll either, kinda just happened. Well it gave the old timers something to talk about for the next 40 years... ;D
