Rear Ended
« on: March 21, 2021, 11:48:13 PM »
Got rear ended on the way to work today by some little SUV.  Some guy was driving crazy and when he swerved near me I blew the horn and guess he didn't like that so he got up ahead of me and skidded to a stop in the freeway.  I almost hit him, swerved around him sideways and ended up in front of him stopped.  Then a bunch of other cars behind him wrecked and I think he panicked and stomped the gas and he hit me in the back and tried to shove me out of the way but it didn't work out so good for his car.  Then he took off.  Gone!  He left his fender, mirror and front bumper behind.  Hope they find him or I gotta eat this.  Hope it wasn't stolen but might have been it looked very new, but I can't tell all those SUVs apart, They all look alike to me.  Definitely not  the worst wreck by far but that's my truck.  I drive 65mph max.  I drive it mostly like an old man but the crazies still find ya.

I dunno if this is allowed, Just edit this out if not allowed, but I'm hunting for the piece of trim, left lower rear bedside, GM NOS.  All the other stuff I can get aftermarket and they fit fine, but that one piece fits badly aftermarket.

I'll be taking it to the body shop that painted it this week to get an estimate.  Me n Dad will straighten the bumper back out and repaint it ourselves.  Guess I'm getting older, I'm just glad everybodys okay and I'm not flipping out over it.

On to the dangit.

Man! So sorry for you and your truck! Sounds like he got some of what he deserved, hope they find him.

I've got that bumper if you need a pristine one.

You have to admit, our horns are pretty potent, probably scared some excrement out of him for him to go so postal.

That really sucks! All the hard work that goes into these trucks... you just can't have anything nice anymore.

Well...  Part of it may be I have those shocker Air horns and he had his windows down.  He did swerve because of em.  I don't usually use em except for all the deer out here, but he was special...lol

PM me the info on the bumper.  Pics n costs would be nice.

At least it was light damage  and nobody got hurt.  It's not running right so I haven't taken it to the body shop yet.  I guess the hit knocked loose some crap in the tanks or the carb.  I'll find out the damage when I get it running right again.

On one hand if I was in my car I never woulda ended up in front of him, but if I had to end up in front of him, I'm glad it was the truck.  I feel safer in it for stuff like that...   ha, like you can plan for stuff like that...

Anybody know if those aftermarket cheyenne tailgate bands like the one I have are any good?  I may end up buying one for this.  I have an original one, back in the day I added the emblem on the right side to cover up a big dent I couldn't make look right.  a new one would be nice.

That's alright.  I'm gonna see if I can straighten the one I have and not have kinks in it.  If I can't I'll let you know.  Thanks for the help Johnny

It'll be a lil bit before I get it fixed.  I'm so deep into my camaro just right now I can't divert funding.  Camaro is almost done!

In the pic is the everything new 3.73 rear end for it.  Gotta put it in while changing the bum fuel pump and have the full UMI suspension for it which will be going in at the same time.  all of it will be new with Bilstein shocks and subframe connectors and everything.  its best educated guess 360 -370hp.  new engine, new trans, new rear end, new suspension, recovered seats new dash the whole sound system, new wheels n tires...  all it will need is window tint.

Sure did.  Got a new Tranny and New Blueprint Engines LT1 with Edelbrock heads and BBK shorty Headers.  Engine doing well so far though I've only put about 4k on it so far.  Seems to be consistent little problems out of it.  Well, once the fuel pumps done, suspension's installed and rear ends swapped in  (2.73 to 3.73) it will be all new where it counts.  Paint is very decent, no fading but various chipping here and there so a solid 15 footer.   I didn't care for it being an auto until after the bad car wreck messed up my left leg.  Now I'm appreciative of it.   8)

I'm back to hanging this thing off the back of the truck.  It wouldn't have helped with what happened but I don't wanna get rear ended anymore so I'm gonna just keep the big hitch on there.  Last time I had to use this was fighting for parking in college.  I always had to back my truck into spots.  Well while I'm going to back in some lil car would whip it in and take me spot.  once I put this thing in they wouldn't get anywhere near me.  Dang I've had this truck a long time.
