steering wheels

Hello all,

Had an idea yesterday and wanted some advice. I was thinking of installing a steering wheel from a 97 or so model in my 79. Any body seen it done? Will it work? If not how about the 88-96 models? Thanks in advance!

the wheel from a 97 would work but why deal with an airbag wheel if you don't need to. I'd do the four spoke wheel from the early to mid nineties trucks. It really is a nice, cheap update for our old iron. You can also get them on ebay fairly cheap or hit your local salvage yard for a nice one.

My 87 has a 94 steering wheel on it.  I love it because it reminds me of my 91 dually that I sold right before the baby was born... :(

I don't know for sure but I think most GM,Chevy wheels and steering columns are interchangable . I put an early 1980's tilt column out of a Pontac stationwagon in my 1974 truck, with the original steering wheel back on it.
Now your asking,,,,WHY. So the dimmer switch is on the turn signal arm. Also the one I put in was about an inch shorter from the floor boards to the wheel. This makes a big differance in where you hold your arms when driving. I'm pretty tall and this is very comfortable for me.

73-up trucks will accept alot of ful size car columns, but in 67-72 trucks and older trucks, no, takes mods to make anything else fit, cept for van columns. steering wheels on most al GM vehicles are same spline and shaft diameter, and most of the time will work on whatever column, telescoping cadillac columns are goofy, i just tossed a mint 79 de ville telescoping column that i tried ot even give away and no one wanted it,,,,

good luck

I advise rebuilding any column you intend to put in.

I replaced mine last year because it was worn out.

Now, a year later, the one I put in is worn out.

I've heard mostly any wheel will work, even like a Cavalier wheel.
