Got my new desktop, oh my what a difference...
« on: August 16, 2013, 07:36:34 PM »
I should have done this along time ago.  After 12+ years I finally upgraded to a new one.  I can't say enough about Dell.  I had the best of the best in 2001 and paid dearly for it but it never crashed and was on most of its life.  I pulled the trigger on another.  XPS8700 with 1TB hard drive and 12GB Dual Channel DDR3 RAM.  I went with Windows 7 for a $30 up charge.  All I can say is wow, what a difference in speed and overall enjoyable computing experience.

zieg i got my hp dv7 a couple years ago. then i broke the screen (lol) so i got a new one and went to replace that and broke the connection to the keyboard. now talking to a computer guy he said it would prob cost 300 for him to install a new motherboard and test the rest out. just a note to self i will probably think twice about working on a computer again lol

Zieg,

It's even more enjoyable when you build it yourself from scratch... you can save a pretty penny doing it that way as well most stuff is alot cheaper online. Just give it a thought after the next 12 years of this new computer is up. desktops are pretty simple to through together yourself and can find all the instructions online on how to build them regardless!

Glad to hear it Zieg, I finally upgraded my wife's laptop for her.  Got her a new Mac air book, and couldn't resist so I got a new acre laptop for myself.
I hope I am as happy with it as you are with yours.

Why did you get upcharged for Windows 7?

I don't know that answer Vile.  I would have thought you would have gotten a deal for an older OS.  My wife has Windows 8 and what little I've messed with it I didn't care for it.  I missed a Windows 7 clearance sale from Dell, "Limited quantities available" and glad I did cause a couple of weeks later the computer I was interested in was even less expensive by $70 total once I upped the ante with the extra RAM and Windows 7.

Glad to hear you like it.
I may have to go back to a PC.
I got rid of mine a few years ago when I got a smart phone.
Its just not the same.
I'm still on this site almost daily, but I find myself posting less with my phone.

I have iPads, smart phones, laptops and desktops. I use all of them! It's good not to have all of your eggs in one basket :)

Same with me. Since I changed jobs I am not around a pc much anymore. I do read the forum on my phone but posting is kind of painful compared to a pc. I use the wife's laptop inside the house but keep a good pc in my shop. Been to busy with work to spend much time in my own shop so I rarely use the pc.
