neutral safety switch
« on: December 29, 2010, 09:42:55 PM »
My 77 GMC half ton automatic V/8 will start in any gear. I replaced the neutral safety switch assuming that was the problem. It still starts in any gear. When I first got the truck, it had an alarm system in it with a lot of extra wiring under the dash and the second second week I had it the truck failed to start untill I had an alarm company come out and disconnect it. I am wondering if the alarm tech did something to it to make it start and caused the start in any gear problem.I have owned the truck for 9 years. I only discovered the problem on about the 2nd year by accidently starting it in reverse. It did it with the turbo 350 with 350 engine and then with the 327 engine with the700R4 in it now. Do any of you guys have any solutions or trouble shooting tips ?

If it starts in all gears then either the switch isn't moving or it is bypassed
