Hi,

I bought my 1985 GMC Sierra Classic used.  Both power windows do not work.  When I press the switch on the driver's door I don't hear anything like a motor, engage.  I have already replaced the switch and checked my fuses.  The guy that I bought it from told me there is "module" further down in the door that needs to be replaced.  I am newbie and I thought the module he was referring to WAS the switch.  Since both power windows don't work, I'm thinking that this is an electrical problem that's prohibiting electrical current getting to the appropriate device.

Do I need to take the door off?  What do I need to look for?  My power locks work fine.   Please be as detailed as possible because I'm a newbie when it comes to things like this.

Thanks, Craig

Electrical problems are almost always connectors or grounds.  Here's the diagram:

Pull the drivers door panel.  Check for power (with a voltmeter on "volts dc" to ground) on the PINK wire at the window switch; you should get battery voltage, 13.2 volts).  Then check for ground (with a voltmeter on "ohms" to ground) on the BLK wire at the window switch; you should get low ohms (0-5).  That's first thing.

There is a relay under the dash for the power windows.  You might want to investigate that.

I saw the power window fuse and I replaced it.  Is a relay something else?  Can you tell me what it looks like?

No.  No power to the switch.  The passenger side won't roll down either.  I don't even here the motor kicking in.

not sure but i dont think there is a relay for the window just for the locks. and the diagram posted above doesnt show one for the windows so that kind of backs this up. so check your wires follow them from the switch to the dash make sure you have power at the dash also. check for broken wires. was your window fuses blown?
