chevy k30 1984
« on: February 08, 2015, 07:51:43 AM »
hey, I got a question about my chevy k30.
Yesterday there was a roadbook here. and they made a mudhole for us to drive in. I had no problems at all driving through. but when I and my friend in his k30 tried backwards, I failed. And in my friends k30 there is a text on the dashboard that says 'no backdriving in 4L'. Can someone explain why that is?

One of the moderators will have to move it.  Good question, never heard of it but I am not a 4x4 guy.  Welcome from NW Indiana

moved, never seen that text before. but while mudding we normally keep it in high just to get the tires spinning faster

But it's stronger in low? I used to drive a 1992 nissan patrol gr (2.8TD). and with the patrol I needed speed tl get through a hole.. but with this chevy the best I can do is go slow :) I tried going in fast but when I felt I was slowing down I lifted my foot from the pedal and I felt it crawling through the mud :)

Post some pictures if you can, a European version may differ from what we have in the states.  Inquiring minds want to know...

the low speed is a "torque multiplier" you are stronger but you are limited to your speed. low imo is more for pulling something out when you go in you want the wheel speed to help keep your momentum up

Question: do you have manual or Auto front hubs? I know there are some auto hubs that if you got in reverse it will disengage the hubs, Bronco II auto hubs are like this.
