Hydroboost conversion - question on booster parts
« on: August 18, 2021, 11:04:19 PM »
Hi All,

Looking at doing a hydroboost conversion on my 74, but as I'm located in Australia, I need to mail order most of the parts including the booster.

Looking at picking up a rebuild unit, but I've noticed that at least one of the on Amazon had a review stating:
"
Yes it comes with a backing plate. But does not come with the out rod, spring or retainer the goes between the hydroboost and master cylinder. Mask sure you remove them before you send in the core.
"

Not being familiar with the unit, what are these, what's their proper name and is there anywhere online I can buy them? Like a rockauto or Summit?

Thanks in advance!

Not sure what they mean.  I have swapped a few from vacuum to Hydra and I don't remember a spring, maybe the rear spring.  The MC should bolt to the hydra and depending on they style you have it would need the proper length rod between the 2.

This is a universal kit which should have everything, or a number to call and ask.  This is a reputable company IMO

I don't know anything about these companies but they sell a kit based on your existing setup.
This is the 73-79 version..

Why would you convert to hydroboost, especially in Australia?

Low engine vacuum from the Cam in my LS1, but I also need the clearance. The 11" booster is too big, and with low vacuum, going to a smaller booster seems like a bad idea.

Looks like I've found a lead on it from powerbrakes.com.

Trying to do it cheaply, so piecing it together is a lot better pricing than getting a kit. This spring and rod kit is the missing piece from my 'home kit'

Assuming it is a C10 going to manual brakes and ditching the power booster may be a route you haven't thought of.  My 86 C10 stops great and I actually prefer it to power.  Just something to ponder
