Crew Cab SWB Cummins 4X4 Build
« on: February 14, 2013, 03:19:08 PM »
Well they all start somewhere and this one starts here, just back it into the garage. 1987 CC Western Hauler 2WD, I will be pulling the bed off, removing the 454/TH400, all the front end, rear end, interior to get ready for the Dodge/Cummins stuff. Monday I will be traveling to IL to get a 1992 Dodge Cummins 4X4 donor truck. Still looking for a SWB if anyone knows where one is within reason.

That should be an interesting build.  Have you done this swap before ?  Keep the pics coming and details.

I built the truck in my avatar, but never was able to get the Cummins installed. You know the story, a guy showed up that wanted it worse than I did. This truck won't leave my garage until it has the Cummins in it.

I was able to get the bed loose today just waiting on a buyer to come get it. Got the rear seat out carpet up and rear door panels removed.

Any ideas on sound deadening? This Cummins will need all the help plus some I'm afraid.

Oh we'll felt good to get back in the garage for a day.

GM had an external firewall cover.  The discussion in the thread below indicates it was limited to Camper Special trucks, but for some reason I seem to recall seeing diesel trucks with the firewall insulation. Of course, they could've been Camper Special diesel trucks...

Here is a discussion about various insulation types/techniques

There are quite a few discussions about insulation on the forum that you may want to search through

Are you keeping the duallies or going with a single axle ?

It will be a single rear, short wide bed.

Well I got the boat anchor(454) out of it today, now just need to clean up the wiring harness(a bunch), don't need all these stinking wires to make a diesel run.  ;D
