A new paint job is next!
-
Welcome from California. Nice truck. Not gonna lie, fix the dent in the door and that paint job looks pretty cool. I'd redo it and maybe change the colors.
-
Thank you! In 2 weeks I'm starting the body work and doing a 2 tone paint job with new colors.
-
What are the new colors gonna be?
Whats the truck in the background?
-
Subaru WRX blue pearl over black. There are 2 square body suburbans behind it.
-
Hey ccdually, what size tire is on your truck? I have one I want to lower like that but it has 6 BRAND new 235/85/16 Hankooks that I don't want to have to replace. Cool truck.
-
It currently has 225/75/16 up front and 235/85/16 in the rear. They are tucked in the fender a ways.
-
Thanks ccdually. Based on pics I have of mine and that pic of yours I'm guessing yours is a 3"/5" drop. Any idea if that's right; or did you purchase the truck like this?
-
87V20Kansan,
You bet. I just installed the kit in mine about 2 weeks ago. It is 6/8 with the C-Notch in the rear.
-
Here are a few more pics.

Here are a few more pics.
I'm not one to normally want a lowered truck myself, but that looks soooo good, I'de drive that with out question.
-
LTZ C20,
Thank you! It should look really good once its painted!
-
Do mine to while your at it lol
-
I love it. Western Chassis' kit? I would have a very hard time wanting to paint that thing. It's so retro cool to me I'd probably just live with the dents and paint the hood silver. ;D
-
87V20Kansan,
It is the Western Chassis kit. The experience with them was not very good. but the truck does look good with the kit.
As an automotive painter I can appreciate the retro look but it doesnt appeal to me on my personal vehicles. I am going more for the custom look like the pic I have attached. I shaved the drip rails and antenna this weekend and primed the front fenders.
-
I get it. If I had access every day to a booth I'd jump in it too!
-
Slowly making progress.
-
looking good man
you gunna keep that rear bumper? it looks pretty sweet
-
Thank you! I think I am going to go to a hitch and a smooth suburban bumper.
-
right on dude keep it up
-
Looks good!
-
Almost ready for Primer!
-
First round of primer this weekend.
-
Looking good so far. Your paint looked 10 times better than mine before you even started.

Thank you. Those crazy 80's graphics hid a fair amount of damage in the doors. I had a bunc of holes to weld up from the drip rails, tri pod mirror holes, emblems and handles that were bolted onto the cab corners and the back of my cab could waive back to you if you waived to it.
-
Got the doors all cut in on Tuesday night! I should be painting the dash on saturday then the door jambs on the cab in another week.
-
I was finally able to get some paint down on the dash. I cant wait to see how this color looks on part of the body!
-
That's a beautiful blue. Looks really great!
-
That is BAD blue, pardon my french, it looks awesome! What color is that?
-
Thank you. Its the blue on the newer Subaru WRX, color code 02C. IN the light it looks even better!
-
I'm suprised I liked a saburu color haha, being a pretty much GM only guy. I know what car your referring too.
-
That is a very sharp blue! Nice!!
-
Thanks Everyone! I was able to get the fenders and fender liners painted last night. Hopefully the cab will go into the booth next weekend.
-
Very nice work! Is this a full restoration?
-
It is pretty close. I had wanted a lowered crew cab dually since 16 and decided it was time to build a custom one. This one as of now has been lowered 8", a few minor body mods then a custom 2 tone paint job. Eventually im going to redo the interior with newer seats and the top half of the 454 thats in it with aluminum heads, cam and going back to a carb. The TBI sucks!
I got the jambs and the core support painted last night and am hoping to get the cab forward painted over the weekend.
-
Just need to do a final light block and wetsand then its time to start laying down some colors!
-
What color are you going with?
-
This color!!

Awesome can't wait to see it!
-
You will have to wait and see! ;D
That 76 Bonanza is pretty cool!
-
I know, i love that bonanza, thats the goal for my truck some day. Hope your paint comes out nice, sure it will.
-
My favorite paint scheme is still:

-
For THAT truck,,,,,,,, i agree!
-
After an 18hr day on Saturday I left the shop very early sunday morning with a big smile! :) Still needs to be wetsanded and buffed. Now onto finishing the bed and other parts before I start re-assmebly. With all the work that went into the cab, sheetmetal and dash I think have about 300hrs of labor into this project.
-
Wow! Looking nice! I like that blue! Good job! :)
-
Amazing! Hope mine will turn out half as good. Did you lay the silver for pinstripe first?

Thank you! Yes the stripe went down then black then blue.
-
Looks like the cars on "overhaulin", perfect!!
-
Soooo freaking nice.....
-
Thank you! It was a long week. Instill have the box, rear fenders and a bunch of other parts to paint before reassembly.

I almost bought a Dually that was that exact paint scheme before I found my '91!
-
That is almost my paint scheme, but the '91 is black on top and a metallic blue on the bottom. stripe is flames. Yours looks killer!
-
This should look pretty sharp all painted Black ! Tailgate is almost ready for primer too.
-
Wait, so what are your plans??
-
Bumper will be painted black and all smooth. Tailgate will have a flip kit for the handle.
-
But you'll still bolt it on right?

You weld the bolts on the backside of the bumper. Grind down the head and fill it in.
Smoother bumper with bolts attached.
-
Yes, I cut the top of the bolt off but left the square portion that goes into the bumper and welded both sides. After being ground the bumper is completely smooth and has the bolts on the inside. I also welded up all the air dam holes across the bottom.
-
But thats not how it came off the assembly line man! Just kidding. Would love to see a pic when complete.
-
At this point not much of my truck is how it came off the assembly line! Haha!
-
I was planning on doing this to the 73-80 front and rear step bumper on my C20 some day. Probably get a painted bumper, shave the bolt heads and then have it chromed.

That would look sharp!
-
That's why I wanted to do it. Looks awesome when done right.
-
It does look way better. If I wasn't painting my bumpers I'm not sure I would have done it.
-
I'm not a fan of painted bumpers so chrome is what I would do. But I'm sure even with chrome it would look sweet.
-
if you do do this you might want to leave it up to the shop to grind the bolt heads. if you do it you may do too much damage to the bumper and they will have to fix it.
-
Maybe some of us shouldn't be wielding angle grinders with flap discs like a crazed maniac then.
-
lol, at this one shop we do sub work for they attached a grinder to a 1x1 piece of wood to clean the inside of a crain and taped the button down. even gave it a nickname "grinder on a stick" like jose jalapeno on a stick. this little guatemalan was using it so the name fit well. till the stick broke while he was using it and hearing him describe the grinder bouncing off the walls of the crain was hilarious
-
I can only imagine how hilarious that would have been.

One of the shown on Power Nation (I forget which show) did a segment on shaving & chroming bumpers.
That was exactly the advice that they gave.
The chrome shop said that people tend to grind off a little too much metal leaving a divot.
The advice they gave was to weld on the bolt and drop it off at the chrome shop and let them grind it smooth.
-
Almost ready to start re-assembly. I still need to paint the rear bumper, door handles, mirrors and rear fenders.
-
Looking good!! What color is that blue?
-
Thanks! It's the blue on the new Subaru WRX
-
Looks good.
-
Just about done. Need to find a suburban rear bumper.
-
Saaawheeeet!
-
Very nice!
-
I had forgotten how much I loike driving this truck after spending the last 10 months working on it!
-
That looks freaking amazing! TOTALLY KILLER look! Great job!
-
I liked the original color so I was a little skeptical about the color combination you chose. However, I really like the end result. Also, I really like the black grill and bumper. Great stance.
Definitely a truck of the month!

Thank you guys! I did order a cowl induction hood for it. Hopefully I will have that installed next weekend.
-
Decided to go with a cowl induction hood at the last minute.
-
I really like the 2 tone. I think these duallies look mean laying low!
