Title: New Guy to the board
Post by: 2piececrank on July 30, 2021, 08:47:42 AM
Admin - Thanks for the add to the group.

Guys and/or Gals,

I grew up learning to drive on a 67 C10 fleetside/long bed that my Grandfather used on his farm so I'm always had a soft spot for these trucks.  Fast forward to present day and I acquired a 73 C10 2wd.  My question is, what is the 'day 2' modification that you all are doing or the best 'bang for the buck' upgrade as it pertains to 2wd.  I see a lot of lowered trucks and I'm a big fan of the steal wheel/dog dish poverty cap look with body color wheels.  Any and all suggestions welcome.  Can't wait to get started on it.

The "best bang for the buck" depends on your intended use and personal preferences.

Welcome from California.

Welcome from PA!

bd is right about intended use. Another factor is the current condition of the truck. If it's been beat around and is in poor shape then bang for your buck could mean factory replacement/stock parts.

I should've clarified intended use.  Right now, a street cruiser so probably drop it some, nothing crazy, and body color steel wheels and new tires.  Air bag setup would be neat but I'm not sure I want to go that route and plumbing lines.

Welcome!

My bang for the buck intention was to rebuild the drive train (not cheap) and get a good bit not show quality paint job. Fast forward a few years and the paint job is much closer to show quality and the total price tag is closer to a new truck.

But I wouldn't trade the experience.

It's getting really hard to find people to do paint in between the ultra expensive overhaul places and ultra cheap paint places (maaco by us).

Welcome from SoCal San Diego! Pls post pics when you can.

I agree with all the comments and would point out that the more popular upgrades apply equally between C's and K's, with the exception of lifting a K type. I expect to be flamed by K guys about drive train but whatev's...right?  ::)

I've got some straight Fido bowls I won't be using if interested... 8)

Trying to upload pics of the truck but can't get the file size down.  I've tried emailing it to myself and saving under different formats but no luck.  Open to suggestions.

I've got Android. I open the pics with gallery, edit by clicking the little pencil on bottom, then the three dots in the upper right have a "resize image" option. I choose 40% and they're reasonable size and can post.

I had android and liked it but I'm on a fruit phone (apple) now and don't care for it.  In a round about way I figured out how to save it to a smaller size.

Pretty straight truck! Looks like a nice project.

How far are you going to take her?

Thanks!  I'm pretty pumped about it but not sure on the direction.  I'm leaning toward the body colored steel wheels and poverty/dog dish caps look and lowered but still want a nice cruiser truck.  I don't want to go the frame notch route.

Possibly looking at LS swap because the original 350 is pretty tired.  I think it'd be cool to put in a T-56 also but I want to keep the interior as stock looking as possible and may leave the paint the way it is.

I’m betting that “tired 350” will perk right up with some love.
