1986 C20 454 auto. What is this?  Located on drivers side of carb.

Might be A/C compressor switch. Being on the DS of carb is about where the compressor would be if you had an A/C system. Just a guess!

That air temperature switch inserts through the side of the air cleaner housing and is retained by a horseshoe spring clip.  It is part of the AIR emissions package (smog pump) control circuit.  The switch contacts should close above ~60° F.
