Hey everyone. I have an '85 K10 350 AT NP208 long bed. It is stock except for the 350 I am transplanting for the 305.
The 350 is a '92 block .030 over. I built this with a mild cam (Summit K1102) and GM vortec heads, edelbrock 2116 vortec intake and QJet. I planned to use stock exhaust manifolds, heat riser valve, y-pipe and other exhaust components for simplicity. I am not planning to run a dual exhaust. This is not a high performance truck.
I recently discovered that the stock passenger side cast iron exhaust manifold will not mount to the head since the vortec heads do not have the additional outermost drilled/tapped hole on what is the #8 cyl exhaust port (or #1 cyl when mounted on the driver side). Thought I had done my research, but I was not thorough enough. So now I have a bunch new exhaust components (cast manifolds, Y pipe, muffler, other exhaust piping) that I can't use.
Has anyone used shorty headers that allows the stock 1985 K10 exhaust system (that I have) to bolt up? Basically swapping the cast manifolds (and heat riser valve) out for the shortys. I have searched the forum and googled and duckduckgo'd, but did not see someone that has done this exact swap (or I missed it). I have seen someone using 88-95 shortys in a 86 K20, but I am not sure if those shortys bolted to their stock y-pipe (uses the same Y-Pipe as my 85 K10) or something custom.
If you know of a set of shortys that will allow my stock y-pipe (Walker 40412) to bolt up, please post up brand and part number of shortys. Thank you.
