Cheyenne or Silverado?
« on: June 23, 2020, 10:23:13 PM »
Hello,

I have a 1979 Chevy c10 SWB.  I’m trying to figure out which trim package it is. When I got it the fender badges had been shaved off.  It does have the trim under the windows and cab corners. It also appears to have come with the trim that separates two tones. The VIN revealed it was a diesel at one point. I’m leaning towards Cheyenne cause it has the thinner tailgate band. Anyway, any input would be appreciated,

Thanks,

I don't think you can go by what trim is or is not present on the truck now.  It has obviously been restored and the owner could have just opted for what he/she thought looked nice.  I am assuming the code sheet on the inside of the glove box door is gone?  I think that is probably about the only way to know for sure.  I'm not sure if these trucks ever had build sheets hiding under the seats like some of the old muscle cars.  But even if they did, odds are it is long gone now as well.

It actually does have a data sticker on the glove box, it had the vin but nothing else really, unless I don’t k ow what I’m reading. If you don’t mind, I’ll post a pic of it tomorrow and maybe you could take a look at? I’m out of town now.

This is an example of the sticker or RPO codes on the left of the description.

That's a great example Zieg, I think I actually saw 'Silverado' on the bottom right.

That’s not the data sticker I have. This is what I had and it doesn’t help much.

Without the sticker on the glovebox or a build sheet hiding someplace, you're probably SOL.  You could try the GM Heritage Center.

From the way it’s equipped, it’s either a Silverado or a Cheyenne. Thought more Cheyenne due to the tailgate but that could have been swapped. It has the cab to fender insulator and that is Cheyenne or Silverado equipment. Headliner as well, carpet, sill plates, if I scratch a part of the gate and it matches the cab floor color, I would guess Cheyenne

Which Chevy plant did this truck roll out of? I believe you could narrow it down more as not all plants built all models. If you don't already know, you can go by the VIN and it is the 7th digit. It corresponds to the plant below:

A - Lakewood, GA
B - Baltimore, MD
F - Flint, MI
J - Janesville, WI
S - St. Louis, MO
U - Lordstown, OH
V - Pontiac (GMC), MI
Z - Fremont, CA
1 - Oshawa, Ont.

Seventh digit is Z. It looks like it was made at the Fremont plant in California, Badge. That’s a good idea, I’m gonna research that now.
