Auto trans shifter linkage.....what am I missing?
« on: March 09, 2008, 07:32:13 PM »
There is a shift rod and spring from the transmission to the frame. It fits really lose and the shift rod and spring slip right through the frame mount tab/hole.

Does anyone have a parts diagram or picture of what I am missing?  And where can I find the parts???

There is supposed to be a bushing in there. If your bushing is gone you can just make one out of rubber or nylon. A grommet or a few nylon drain plug gaskets will work.

You can use a 3/8" or 10mm flat washer to keep the spring in. IF you want to fix it like GM built it go to the local Chevy/GMC dealer or local transmission shop & tell them you want a TH350 / TH400 cross shaft shifter linkage to frame grommet, shouldn't cost more than a buck or two.

Thanks. I will try the washer first and see how well it works.  (truck is WAY far from original)

My blazer has a flat washer and a lug nut in the cup for a bushing! ::)

Never thought of an Acorn lug nut, that would work pretty well.

It was a temporary trail fix that has been in there for about 8 years now!
