What is the tallest air filter element you can run and still clear the hood? (With a flat base.)

I've seen 5 inch tall elements used in these trucks.

I use a 6" K&N, I have seen two four inchers stacked. Find a small kid and teach them to read measurements and close em in under the hood with a flashlight.  :o

A better way would be to use a small telescoping magnetic pickup tool handle. Place it inside the lower so the handle is up and extended beyond the guesstimated hood height, close the hood to compress the handle, make sure it will fully compress instead of poking a hole in something  ::)) and then do some math. Might even be easier ways, I laid a straight edge from fender to fender and just measured up to that. I still have enough room for a few more inches of filter. The center stud on the carb (Holley truck avenger) is about 3" taller than the 6" filter right now. But that is centerline, I'm not certain how that translates towards the edges where the filter lid would be. It really all depends on what intake and carb combo you have.
I am what I am and I ain't no more!

Cool.  I'm wanting to run a 6" filter.  Should be OK.  Thanks.

i know it would be a pain in the butt, but you could take a inner fender off and get the measurement from there

Just be careful with your air cleaner stud the first time you close the hood.
I've seen more than 1 hot rod with a ding in the middle of the hood after someone installed a new aluminum intake, carb, & air cleaner and then slammed the hood.
