2001 Silverado 2500HD front crash sensors
« on: May 22, 2019, 10:00:08 AM »
Going to be taking off my front bumper soon and want to try and get my airbag light to turn off.  I've researched it and most likely my sensors need replaced.  $157 x 2 is more than I want to spend on this old truck.  Is there a resistance across the 2 wires that I can add to eliminate them?  I could care a less about having airbags anyway, fuse has been removed, I just want the light to go away.  Can anyone shed some light on a possible solution shy of spending the money or taking the dash apart and take the bulb out.

i dont think theres any easy way to do it. i know one guy that says he knows how to do it but wont reveal it due to liability issues. if it was me i would take the dash apart but on my imp theyre bulbs that are soldered in. so if you only have the 194 style bulbs then that sounds easy. i piece of electric tape also will work. not sure if yours also have them but some have the weight sensors in the seats

I get the liability issue... I hate the thought of exploding airbags with shards of stuff in them due to age and I still think equal crashing of a 2001 without airbags is still going to have a better outcome versus a 1985 Chev C20.  Having an airbag light on probably means they aren't going to work anyway... but I had to ask

my dog sets off my airbag sensor on my 2010 when he sits in the front seat. the seat belt chime will go off if its not buckled. figured if its not buckled the air bag wont go off turns out that it doesnt matter as long as the weight sensor picks up anything the airbag will still go off

Got a line in a pair in a parting out truck.  Guy shown a picture of the truck running of the dash and no air bag light is on.  Getting the mirrors and sensors for $30.  Also read where a 2.2 ohm, 1/4 watt or larger will take the place of the sensor.  I hope to make it right but just want the light to turn off the on the dash.

Just fix it right. Not sure why you are condemning the sensors but since you have a used set, you can try and see what happens. Nevertheless it's not a complex system to diagnose and intentionally bypassing it puts you liable if anything happens including to yourself. I would suggest you reinstall the fuses, clear codes and see what comes back. Start from there as your baseline.

Fixing it right would be great.  My OBD2 reader isn't the top of the line and doesn't read airbag or ABS problems.  My first plan of attack is to check my sensors/connections.  As a backup get some ones from a truck that at least doesn't have the airbag light on.  Being the base work truck I only have the 2 airbags.
