VALVE SPRINGS
« on: November 18, 2016, 03:43:02 PM »
Hey y'all, I am in the process of doing a lot to my inherited 85 chevy c10 305 with a tbi conversion on it. I am replacing exhaust (LT headers with dual exhaust). I removed the smog pump, and will be doing the tbi mod. While the truck is out of commission (not my daily driver, it was inherited and it was neglected for the past decade). I decided to see what heads I had, they have a casting number of 14022601, from what I can tell, that casting number head is a decent head, but anyways when I pulled the valve cover off, I noticed that there was a lot of oil buildup/sludge. So I have decided to remove them, clean them and replace the springs on them (not sure if there is 65,000 miles on the truck or 165,000 miles. But since I have to remove the intake manifold and the distributor to remove the heads, I am going to go ahead and replace the cam with a summit 1102, nothing to big, just something mild. My question is, what springs would be a good budget friendly replacement. I am having trouble finding them by the truck year and model. Thanks.

Some suggestions I have received (what do you think):

Your TBI set up has a map sensor. If your vacuum falls much it will run rich. Check out tbichips.com , he has really good articles on the tbi. See if your  cam is on or similar to those on his recommended list. I can't remember if there is info on valve springs. We're using his heated O2 sensor and fuel pump. I think Brooke has money saved and will be getting a chip soon. I hope it turns out good!

Every cam grind should have a recommended valve spring. Call Summit and tell them what you want and their tech department should be able to fix you up with what you need.
