Reproduction Interior Black Base
« on: October 09, 2023, 12:31:08 PM »
I am in the process of going to a black interior in my 85 C10.  Question is...does the black base color on these parts (dashpad, plastics trim, etc) that usually comes from the reproduction factories need to be painted or dyed?  Or can it just be unboxed and installed?

I would think it depends on the finish of the product vs the finish you want, i.e. if the factory finish is flat black, I would want to elevate the finish to at least a 'matte' or 'satin' look.

Recently I redid a dash with a rattle can, but the nozzle on the can didn't fan out enough and I couldn't overcome what appeared to be streaks.

So I punctured (carefully) the top of the rattle can and poured the mix into a little detail paint gun I have and it fanned out nicely. Pics before and after (if there is an after) would be fun to look at.
