Junkyard Windshield Replacement
« on: March 24, 2006, 12:54:00 PM »
Have and 82 pickup and want to know what windshields will fit when I go searching the junkyard.  Also I read on the tech pages that some people replaced the seal, any suggestions for where I can get a replacement seal?

YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO PUT ANY YEAR FROM 73-87 CHEVY SILVERADO OR GMC SIERRA AND ALSO ASK FOR SUBURBAN WINDSHIELD THE ARE THE SAME UP TO 1991.

I've never paid more than $100 bucks installed...you need to shop around a little more...Tell them you're paying cash..

It depends on where you live...the cost of living, etc.  In some cities, you cant get a lug nut for $100.

If you tell the glass shop you are paying cash and no insurance involved, they come way down on the price that they normally charge insurance companies.  I had my windshield replaced in my 79 about two years ago for $125, installed, w/out new seal.  If your gasket needs replacing, it will be more, obviously. Tell they glass shop you want to reuse your existing seal.

It's going to cost me 337 to get mine replaced with new seal and trim lock. This is through safelite autoglass.....I believe it's PPG glass.

That's a lot of money.  but, considering it is for the seal and trim lock, maybe worth it, but i would shop around.

Yeah, I could order one through   for 100 plus shipping along with seal. Golden state pickup parts has one for 189, but I'd have to install. When I had my 1988 Honda Civic, I used a cheap auto glass company and the windshield didn't fit correct or something. Leaked when i washed the car when it rained. Anymore, on most stuff, I like to have them install with a good warranty.
