Hello guys, long time reader, first time poster. I have done a search on this topic, but i havent found the exact same situation im wanting to do. My truck is a 75 c10 swb stepside, floors will be done on sunday and i have the sbc sitting waiting for the front clip, cooling system, and most importantly the trans. I was originally going to go with a 700r4 but it is always more fun driving a stick. I have had a few friends that have ran 700r4s before and love them for the OD but they fail after a year or two of abuse. My engine will be a 355 roughly 350-375hp and around the same on torque.
So my question is how should i go about adapting the t56 trans to the block? I have heard of adapter bellhousing make by quicktime and such. I have also heard of adapter plates in between a factory muncie t10 bellhousing and the t56 trans case so you can use a factory style flywheel, clutch, and pp setup. I like the second option because i have a muncie bell and billet flywheel.
Which option would be best? Has anyone done this before and used both or either? Which would be safer? And i am having major problems finding a transmission locally that doesnt cost $2000+. Junkyards around here rarely see any ls camaros with a t56.
