73 350 engine?

just wondering without taking the oil pan off how can i tell if i have a four bolt main. my vin says i have a first gen 350. and i found a sticker thats says 91 octane perfered. does that mean i have the "highperformance 350."

I have been told that if the casting number on the left rear of the block ends in 0010 its a four bolt, but I have had a couple blocks over the years that had the 0010 and they were two bolts. The numbers on the pad in front of the right hand head under the alt. will tell what year, what it came from original, if its a 4 or 2 bolt. Any Chevy dealer can break that number down.

The only real way to tell is to drop the pan.

I have had 6 010 blocks in the past 2 were 2 bolts and 4 were 4 bolts.The stamp under the Alt.three letter code might tell you look up those letters. Suffix codes Example;TBB

Or just drop the pan.

As Vile says,the only way to tell is to drop the pan.The only reason you would need a 4 bolt is if you were building a very high HP engine in which case you'd have to drop the pan anyways.
