1987 Chevy R30 CCLB Turbocharged 5.3 in - next up odds and ends
« on: February 22, 2011, 02:27:02 PM »
 ;D

well we thoroughly expected it to slow down a bit at the shop over the winter, we'd work on our projects, drink lots of dark beer's, maybe come up with our next stupid projects...... and that of course never happened.

http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2140811713568.118726.1044435559&l=3eba6a929c&type=1   some pics in there i didnt bother to upload.

anyway i posted up a few pics last fall when i got this thing, it pretty much went into "cold" storage right then.  :D

the skinny - 87 r30 (train truck for lack of a better descriptor) BIG truck. picked her up for 9 hunnert dollars. has a rear bumper that makes every "mudding guy" drool.

Cold storage....

I honestly thought we'd need a tow rope and a diesel to get it out of there, it popped off after 4 months of sitting, and drove right out, rooster tails and all.

grille is busted to heck, no the hammer wasn't involved. not a big fan of billet. open to suggestions. i do like the billet inserts they make for the 88-91 grilles but im not swapping front ends.

degreased and ready for its new home in an old 80's conversion van, note the glass fuse block to the left of the air cleaner on the firewall. one was for the CB, the other 4?....   ;D

Since it was a railroad truck the other 4 fuses might have ran the lights or something else attached to the work bed!

in the second pic look by the hood for the ladder, follow the ladder up. dude does just enough work on that house to keep it from being condemned.

For right now I'm waiting for nice enough weather to do some serious rust removal and a whole bunch of plasma cutting.
Ill try and snap a shot of the back side tomorrow so you guys can see what I'm up against.
Ye olde Three fitty is sold as soon as we get the thing into position so it can roll out the shop door for dirty jobs and back in when we're done. pushing this thing without assistance from the engine is no easy task. Hoping once i get that stupid bumper cut off it gets a little better, best guesstimate from our friendly local scrapping guy/ can collector is that it weighs around 500 pounds. I said less, so I owe him a keystone 40 oz. if it does. (somehow it turned into a bet where i get nothing if I'm right)

That's the exit door when you get too drunk.  :P

Awesome project, my 85 originally was a railroad truck as well, mine still have the instructions to lower the gear on the tracks on the visor.

i apologize if these things are huge, i cleared my cache and they look normal size

a few too many leaf springs and 1 too many gas tanks for my liking.

its either an exhaust or a mutant squid.

i like to think of it as more of a "demolisher" than a bumper  :o

did i mention its an air tank? either way its getting cut off.

reason number 237 our UPS guy hates us.

and the parts pile just keeps growing.

the belltech c-section kit (belltech actually calls it a c-section.....) actually comes with everything you need short of u-bolts to relocate the axle. i already have a western chassis relocator kit, ill post up a comparo pic so you guys can see the difference. the belltech perches look like cardboard compared to the western ones.
