I want to switch my blazer to the old style transfer case, is that a direct fit or not?

No it will not be a simple matter of removal and replace.

theres nothing wrong with the 208. the military used them we have some guys who plow with them. if your mudding and really abusing the truck yeah think about the swap but besides that you will be ok

  Like Irish said, the Military used them in many of the CUCV's. The M1008 & M1028 are basically K30's rated at 5/4 tons and they run a 208 behind a turbo 400.
  Years ago in my 88 jimmy I went through 3 tranny's, 2 rear ends, bent the front axle, and cracked the frame, but the 208 never skipped a beat.

I run the snot outa 208s in my plow trucks. Have had a couple fail over the past 25 years, but everything gets worn out at some point. Only others I have broken were with big tires, & a heavy right foot wheelin the wee outa my Blazer.

We beat the crap out of NP208 & NP241 cases when I was plowing in the early 90's.
They have much lower low range gears than most other transfer cases.

I beat mine like a read-headed ford especially this last snow season. I love the low range!! When I would park at work I would find the most rediclouse place just to beat it out of whatever hole I put in when it was time to go home. The only issue I have is its hard to shift at times especially getting into 4l..havent had a chance to investigate that.
