250ci vs 292ci
« on: April 18, 2015, 11:09:51 PM »
Hey Guys,
I was just curious what the issues are with the 250ci that has the intake cast with the head? Are there reliability issues with them or chronic problems that need to be aware of?

I have gathered that a 292ci head will bolt right on but would also need the 292 intake & exhaust manifolds....

Thanks

The integrated head on the 250 and 292 is reported to have cracking problems, my truck is a 76 with an integrated head on a 250.  It had been running 140k miles when owned by my uncle with no issues when I took it out of service.

You can do a head swap with a nonintegrated head from a 194, 230, 250 or 292.  The heads are interchangeable with minor spec changes depending on year.  If you swap the head you will need an intake manifold, exhaust manifold, possible crab adaptor depending on your current crab and if you have power steering you will have to change out the pump support brackets.  The manifolds are also interchangeable on the various heads.

The integrated head is not modifiable and not good for performance..  But for a stock truck it will run fine.  I've collected a donor motor with a nonintegrated head to swap on mine must because I have a set of headers I want to run on the 6

I have a 250 that had the intergral intake and just changed it out with a 230 head from a late 60's car. Same thing wanted to run split exhaust and different intake set up. Most my work is done except getting pipes on it.

Thanks Guys. I had read that the integrated heads sometimes crack and there were no performance upgrades for them. I bought my truck from the original owner. Hasn't ever had any major work done to it. I think I may keep it all stock but pick up a 292 head and manifolds along the way.

Just dropped the truck off at the muffler shop for the final bit of work. The headers where a tad bit loud, so a x pipe and two new magna flow mufflers, short pipes to put the exhaust out in front of the rear tires and it will be back on the road. I will post some pics and performance updates once the last bit of work is finished

By chance do you know what intake you ran with the headers I've been wanting to do the same thing

My offenhouser intake has a thicker flange than my headman headers.  Any ideas on using a thicker gasket to seal off the headers?
