ashtray light?
« on: March 11, 2015, 07:02:44 PM »
So on my 84 k20 I'm redoing some of the wiring. I ran in this odd wire comming.from from the top of the ashtray compartment and it has a 168/194 socket on the end if it. The socket is case powered and the end of the wire grounds on the ashtray end..kinda wierd..where does this light supposed to go?

If I remember right. Open ashtray. Look up towards the right and there should be a hole where the socket clips in. You may have to remove the whole ashtray.

generally speaking you need to give a post more than 24 hrs before someone responds not 2 hrs. some of us only get on at certain times and some of the ones who have seen this post dont know. just a tip.

but i do know its a fiber optic and the bulb side goes into the spot bigg was talking about. the other side goes into the dash cluster when you turn the lights on at the cluster the light shines down the fiber optic cable and to the bulb side

I'm sorry for my impacients...I'm just excited to build this thing :) my problem is I'm not sure where it plugs into the cluster..I have no open holes for this socket..I may have to pull a dash bulb to make room for the fiber optic socket..

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it!! :-)

I've got a light behind the dash right behind the ashtray. Works as a cab light

if you cant tell by the picture the bulb/socket goes in a regular spot in the cluster and the fiber optic wire runs down to the ash tray and lights it up

This helps a lot.  I'm pulling out my ashtray and saw this same thing; wondered what it was.  Now I know.
