Steering wheel lock?
« on: November 02, 2017, 02:56:47 AM »
I got a 77 k10 that was a standard trans on the floor. The wheel doesn't lock when the key is off. Should it?

the lock also acts as a spacer for the steering wheel and column. without it the wheel with have play on its axis. but you can disable the locking pin with glue or it might be able to become all gummed up and get stuck in the "released" position

Coincidence on this post. Replaced my ignition switch on top of my column.

Was all good, now can’t turn the key to auxiliary and the steering wheel lock and park lever lock does not work.

Off comes the steering wheel and see what I broke.

I dislike creating my own problems.

The little rack and pinion thing is probably off a tooth or two

Also the electric switches at the bottom of the Collumn have a slotted mount so they can be adjusted a little

Thanks for the input, I’m sure something is amiss in the rack and sector.
Starts fine.
Jamming when going to aux, other than that fine.
It was working fine after replacing and adjusting the ignition switch.
After it was back together it worked, jammed then worked then jammed again.

Took a quick look and apparently 73-77 has a different rack and gear sector that not as available as the later years.

Some years switches pulled the remote control rod down the column and some years pushed the rod

They all look alike but GM made quite a few changes

The same switch at the bottom is used , you just flip it backwards to use on the push or pull

Yes sounds like it is out of position so the spring bolt isn't fully engaging the lock plate
