modernizing old 454
« on: November 23, 2017, 12:41:57 AM »
Im wondering if anyone has put an EFI and modern heads on an early 70s 454.  Any input is welcome.  I have a 1975 454 in a C10 and want more horsepower and efficiency

Well your 75 heads are probably a better option than the modern heads unless you are speaking aftermarket. Do you know what castings you have? Fuel injection will provide better driveability and fuel economy but if you want max performance you will need to do more than that.

i would want aluminum just for weight savings alone---like 60-70lbs!  The aftermarkets most probably flow better too.

But will EFI really provide more HP than a single 4-barrel?  Even a quadrajet could do well.  Or two 4-barrels and a tunnel ram?

Efficiency probably will go up----a little.

I get the allure of aluminum after changing the heads on mine LOL. One option is Edelbrocks high compression version #60435. As far as the rest. The quadrajet is a pretty good piece when tuned. I went from 8.5 miles to the gallon to 10 by taking off a Holley 600 and reinstalling the q-jet. Not trying to dissuade you at all however. But it's a deep dark rabbit hole. What is your budget? If this is just theoretical on your part that's fun too. David
