Title: Quick colour change..!
Post by: overthepond on March 25, 2008, 03:14:00 PM
After owning loads of shiny cars with lashings of chrome i decided with this Blazer that this was gonna be the one where a quick powerwash at the garage would suffice on cleaning days.. 8)

Here is the k5 on the day i bought it all shiny and chrome but not for long.
I've always liked the m1009 so i thought i'd copy the paint and have the rest civvy style.

And a cheap parts truck that gave up its wheels 400ci and suspension lift along with many other useful bits, this 79' suburban was headed for the junkyard as it had real bad rust everywhere, even the roof had split in 2 places but it kept 2 trucks rolling so no harm done.
Pic was taken after the wheels and lift were removed.

Now the new paintwork starts and into the marquee it goes..

Good job man! Looks cool and pretty straight  ;D

Its real straight which is odd, even the bed dont look used,it may have something to do with the 7 year storage, thats when the paint in the top pic was shot, the guy i bought it from has 2 combine harvester sheds jammed full of various bits and pieces.
Just gotta wait till the weathers good and remove those cab lights...

It's ok - depending on where you live :D

Nice job - I am not a real big fan of camo paint - but you did a good job, especially working between snow blizzards! :)

Only hillbillys i know of are the 'Beverly Hillbillys'...lol

Yeh the camo was a (no choice) thing as i'm trying to save some cash and put it into other areas of the truck, its easily removed if i decide to paint it one day  ;)

Thats made my day..thanks... ;D
I must of done something right, well endless hours of web research paid off then.
I tried getting the brushguard and other military bits and pieces from the states but the shipping was mental, maybe cheaper to get one cut in half and sent in 2 pieces, also on the lookout for the non opening hardtop glass to stop the little neanderthals forcing their way in and taking my stuff.. >:(

how difficult was it to paint the fiberglass on the top?  do you need to do any special prep work or get special paint for that?  i want to try the rustoleum paintjob on the jimmy since the original paint isnt the greatest.

Worst job with painting the top was removing it,its a lot heavier than it looks.
My brother prepped it with stuff he uses to coat plastic bumpers before the top coat goes on,then it was filler primed blocked back and primed again.
I cant remember the name of it  ??? but you should have the same sort of stuff over there.

Just out of curiosity, why does it have a 73 - 80 front bumper?
You mentioned the side windows being open by dirtbags. I had a truck with a single center slider once. The latch was broken, I took a piece of 1"x2" oak. stuck three pieces of Velcro to it and three to the solid glass behind my head. When stuck in place you couldn't open the slider from the out side.

Well spotted..reason being the blazer bumper was bashed up and flaky chrome and i aint a fan of the lights in them,i took this bumper from the 79'suburban i had for parts and moved the lights to behind the grille.
I also used the rear to match them up.
Waste not want not.. ;D

I like to use the 81ish bumpers with the light in them on my trucks. I remove the light and use it for a foot / step hole. I have also put driving or fog lights in the hole before too.

Heck, I like the '79 Burb bumper.  Looked good painted!  Now you just need a winch mounted to it...  ;D
Good lookin urban-redneck rig! (and I like the fact that its being built with practicality in mind, low maint.)

Managed to get a few jobs done to the truck this afternoon, had some odds and ends of exhaust systems lying around so i made myself a system, its mild steel 2.5" and the p/s pipe from the collector sweeps right round the back of the 203 then cuts across into a 'y' piece into a single homemade cherrybomb style muffler....lol
Hopefully it should sound nice but not too loud,if it does i'll make another muffler and make it a dual system . ;D
The poll i started on the colour of the wheel rings was a waste of time as i only had matt black left so i painted 1 and it looks good, gives the wheel a deeper look.. 8)

Sorry overthepond, bad attemp at poor humor.

What would it take for one of us to get you a rear window regulator and you reimburse us?  How do we do the money exchange?  Do you want it new or a used part from a junk yard?

What do you think fella's ???  Can we do that for him? :)
Title: Re: Quick colour change..!

Thats ok,i sorta guessed what you meant... ;D
I can pay via paypal if need be or send a iban through my bank,if a good used regulator is available i'll take one today.. ;)

Finally got a few minutes to fit one of the (volvo leather heated seats  :o) i picked up from the junkyard, had to make a box up to sit it on,good thing is all the original seats mount holes lined up so no need to drill the floor, all the heated seat wiring is contained in the seat along with the relay so its just a case of running power to them and buying 2 heavy switches that will fit nicely into the center console... :D

Overthepond - what are the specifics on your Blazer (year, etc..)?  I want to make sure I get you the right part the first time.

The rear window regulator at our local junk yard is a power regulator - do you still want it?

Alas i had to pull the tank to check the sender as the gauge was reading everything but the true level and on removal i found the connections in the tank had corroded and fell apart.
Just waiting on a replacement coming over so i cleaned the tank and bashguard up,also had a nice wakeup present on the matt, the AACUK decided to use my blazer in a 2 page article on my build up which makes me want to finish it even more now... ;D

Also found myself with nothing to do so i started to clean up the old 12 bolt i had propped up against the fence...funny thing boredom.

Yep, it's all over the news here that you guys are going to have to carry around a "carbon card" to track carbon usage and buy credits if you excede your quota. These people are getting dangerous.

I won't hijack your cool thread for this... we can start another topic. Like your ride, btw.

My new fuel tank sender/strainer arrived yesterday so i finally got round to fitting the tank back up along with the skid plate.
On fitting it back up i wished for kermit the frog's hands as i forgot to hook up the pink wire before lifting it so i had to shove my hand into the 3" space to get it on.After a few choice words and death threats to the blazer it finally popped into position.
I now have a fuel gauge that tells the truth... ;D
Not long now before i can use it,still looking for that elusive regulator for the tailgate and the ac delete cover.
New sender.
