truck not getting gas

took out the gas tank sending unit and there is a rip in the filer. I blew they all of the lines previously and they seemed clear but the sending unit is somewhat clogged (when I blew thru the lines the hoses were not attacked to the sending unit). It doesn't really make sense to me that the trash is only in the unit and not also in the lines? Is it possible I was mistaken and the lines were clogged or is it just the sending unit. Also how should I clean out the lines if I have to?
