Those that have Done K5 Fuel tank swaps
« on: February 05, 2019, 04:12:42 PM »
I have been looking and it's finally time to completely restore my 87 Scottsdale. I am interested in getting rid of the "saddle tank" Driver side only on my particular truck. I am willing to relocate etc,but filler options are making me lerry. Truck has a 6" lift so bed mounted filler is out of the question. I have also seen Mr Kleen's write up behind the tail light, but it wasn't a clean execution. I am worried about articulation and rubbing a bunch of holes in crap.

Anyone with something lifted and uses their rig as intended do one of the swaps? Truck is not a rock crawler or anything and 70% will be road driven, but when I see a hill I know it will pull I feel obligated.. :P

Answers,pictures,direction etc is greatly appreciated!!!

Why do you want to get rid of it?

Why do you want to get rid of it?

More exhaust routing options, better weight distribution, traction etc etc..

Truck is a TBI (OG) to Tuned port if that matters.

Mine is located in basically the same spot as a Blazer which if it had a lift won't matter as my current Blazer has a 6" lift..

You can see what I did starting here

Yea I don't mind a relocated door option.Even behind the tail light is a cool option. Fromt what I'm seeing though most options have to be run through the bed and patched over.  I was meaning lifted as I have seen a few guys do a flush mount in the bed. Which with any kind of lift would suck.lol

I got rid of my drivers saddle tank just to clean it up and simplify things. I pulled the bed off and was able to plumb and route wiring and fuel lines. Just one thing less to worry about with switching tanks and diverters and two fuel senders and all that. Running just passenger tank and is just fine.

Yes.. My 87 has a single Driver mounted 16gl tank. Since it's down for a full restoration was considering relocating to a 25-31g tank setup, and was wondering what those with lifts are doing for convenience while keeping it clean.
