I have a 1986 c 20 short bed 4.3 v6 2wd. My eblems on the side of the truck saids c20 however my Vin number saids it's a 1/2 ton. Also it has the standard amount of lugs like what is on a half ton. Has someone put the wrong decals on the truck ? My buddy said he bets it has heavy duty leaf springs and thats why. Please any help would be greatly appreciated
-
They never made 3/4 T C20's in a short bed, also they all had 8 lugs. Someone may have changed the front fenders.
-
Yep what Zieg said
-
I'd trust the vin over the decals also. The decals would be alot easier to change

this, this is your answer.
either they put C20 emblems on cuz they liked them or the front fenders were changed (most likely due to rust or damaged) and didn't bother to correct the misleading emblems. and they never put a v6 in a C20, that would be counter intuitive. like buying a ford because they are good trucks hahahaha
-
1) How many leafs you got on each side?
2) i agree that it seems counter intuitive to put a 4.3 in a 3/4 ton, but i'm pretty sure they were available.
-
Recent research indicates that if your GVWR was under 8600 lbs, you could get a 4.3 in a 3/4 ton.
i don't mean to politically oppose anyone here, but please understand that i'm a 4.3 aficionado and thus i feel must defend "my" engine. :)
Again, i agree it doesn't seem to make sense as you would probably end up with a thirsty and slow truck, but that's what the papers indicate.....
-
P.S.
The 292 straight six was available for anything above 8600 lbs. GVWR.

i don't think that chart is completely accurate.
It's all in the vehicle info kits at the GM heritage center website, about 4.3's being available in 3/4 tons.
-
well, regardless of what engine it has, the suspension, it being a short bed and the Vin all point to it being a 1/2 ton. So it's a 1/2 ton.

Its a half ton. A ways back i posted the identical problem. My fenders had "Bonanza 20" emblems and i have the heavy duty leaf springs and the 8 foot bed. But my vin said 1/2 ton all day long. And,,,when we removed the emblems they were on there with some sort of adhesive. Now i can't find bonanza 10 emblems anywhere.
-
Wait,,,then whats a Big 10?

It's a heavy half that basically gave you emissions exemptions and beefier springs.

Nice, dont see many of those riding around.
-
and they were ½ ton wheels (5 lug, never seen a 4x4 and from what ive read they dont exists)

Your sure they were 5 lug? Those hub caps dont look like the typical dog dish style.
I'd love to find one of those trucks for sale.
