1984 C10 New Square to add to the fleet
« on: October 01, 2014, 08:00:58 PM »
I can say my wife isn't pleased but is accepting on this new addition due to arrive Sunday.  This is clean for a northern truck.  It really drives nice and besides a little exhaust work to pass emissions it is not to bad.  I've been without a truck that is a worker far too long.  Now I won't rush on my 86 and do it right.

Some stats, Custom Deluxe trim long bed 4.1L 3 on the tree with PS & PB and a blue I can live with.  The wiper squirt-er even works.  I'll post pics on Sunday.

I was shocked when I saw it, it looked to have had a cover of some sort, gasket marks and very little use as a truck...  I will fix that for sure...

Got some good driving and trial and error fixin along the way.  I had a miss under load, no wire arching so I figured a new set of plugs would take care of it.  Made the problem 50% go away but judging from the plugs I took out it was more likely the plug wires.  I had a new set from 20 years ago still sitting in the plastic box from a V-8 so I took the 6 shortest wires and used them.  Ran better but still a slight mis under load.  Took it for exhaust and had the transition pipes made so I could put on what I had.  I parted out a 91 Suburban and it had a like new converter and muffler so I kept it squirreled away.  Now that I have a cat on the truck I will take it in for a tail pipe next Saturday.  Put a new Dist. cap and rotor, now it is running perfectly.  I need to replace some dash lights and put a lighter in it for my GPS.  I also need to get a glove box cause the plastic hinge is broke.  I wish I hadn't gave my last one away.  I've never needed one myself.

Very interesting find!

It's definitely not weighed down with a lot of options...  Do you have any idea on how many miles are on it?

Based on the condition of the original seat, clutch/brake pedal rubber wear I bet it has 121K on it.  Really considering restoring this one too but the others come first...

I'm guessing the original owner didn't get too carried away checking boxes on the options list.......

That would make a great start for a monster truck. Haha.

Probably a dealer ordered truck if I had to guess.  Effortless to drive, just can't be in a hurry to get anywhere as it is a bit of a dog.  I am also finding the 4.1L being the last year and not to common of engine parts are not stocked.  30 years old is probably more likely the reason...

I forgot to mention that my wife actually said "I like this truck, I don't smell gas like all your others"  I will take what I can get...
