Replacing window seals

 Hey guy's,

I just bought an '85 silverado and the window seals are shot and I would like to replace them...but how do you go about doing that? Is there a special tool needed?

That would be the drivers and passengers windows...

If you are talking about the inner outer weatherstripping that attaches to the door panel and the outside door lip you don't have to remove the window.

If you are talking about the vent channel, it will be easier if you remove the vent assembly.

If you are talking about the window sash channel, you don't have to remove the window for that either if you can get your hand in there to seat the channel.  I just did this a few weekends ago and took some pics for a tech article.

that helps, it's just the outer seals I'm concerned about for now.  I was looking at them yesterday trying to figure it out and I saw the clips and couldn't figure out how to get the clips out of the channel to pull the seal out.  Also, do you have a link to those pics, I'd like to check'em out?

Well I was attempting to post a pic of the bad seal but I can't seem to figure out how to upload on this post, insert image ain't to user friendly!!! Oh well.....

The ones at the top of the door panel and the outside of the door right?



They pull off with a little tug.


The ones connected to the door panel require a little more care since you can break the door panel when the clasp on.

That isn't actually 100% true.  It is possible to do it.  I pulled my vent windows out without the main glass and replaced all the weatherstripping and put it back in.
