Parts truck...
« on: March 18, 2017, 02:05:56 AM »
So I'm looking to take the plunge on converting my 84 K2500 to TBI.  I'm thinking for the amount of coin some of these outfits want for a system I might as well buy a running donor.

I have always liked the 4 headlamps of the later model 89-91 GMCs, so I'm thinking of buying a Jimmy or Suburban. I can source the EFI (less tank) and rad support, harnesses and various bright work.  Then another thing dawned on me... bucket seats!  I have seen write ups on Suburban seats transplanted (with work) into square body pickups.  What about Blazers, can those seats also be converted for use in pickups?

Lastly what about G Vans... will the Nose/Rad support work on a pickup?  Just trying to keep my options open for a parts vehicle.

Thanks Guys!

(photo to illustrate style nose I would like to swap too)

Vans don't work, Suburban is the way to go for a donor.  Slight modification to the seat rails and those go right in a pickup, check the technical section for details

The G vans with the horizontal headlamp arrangement used the same headlight bulbs and headlight buckets as the R/V series. Possibly the marker lights and Bow-Tie emblem are interchangeable. The grille, head light bezels, and radiator support are specific to the van.

Thanks Guys, ok G Vans are OUT!

I only checked   but regarding the grille, it looks like they dont carry a GMC repop one. I do believe they have left and right Bezels though. So my question is does anyone else know whats available in the aftermarket GMC Grille wise.I know it might seem silly to some but my truck was "born" a GMC and in so much as I'm changing the heck out of it I would like to keep it GMC.

I do have to open my options up to buying a Chevy as there are a lot more of them available.  Just figured If I knew the 89-91 GMC grille was available somewhere (with the L and R headlamp bezels) it would be no big deal.

Thanks Guys!

Just have patience. There are GMC grilles out there. Start with Craigslist, then the swap meets, the usual.

Your right, patience is something I have never been all that good at.  In the rusty North East most of these trucks have gone to the gods in the sky, not a 1 in the bone yards.

The Suburban seats from that era sure look comfy... how well do they work in the pickups?  By that I mean sometimes you end up with a bucket thats too tall or too short.
