V6 vs V8 Wheel Size?
« on: April 08, 2017, 07:09:33 PM »
I have an 81 Custom Deluxe C10 that was originally a 6-cylinder model and it has 15x7 rally style wheels (I think - hard to measure with tires!); the previous owner mentioned that he thought the 15x7 were the stock wheel for a 6-cylinder model, is this correct? And so in 1981 did any V8 models have 15x7 wheels or did they all use 15x8? Thanks for any info.

I had an ol' 1/2 ton with 15x6 steel wheel's, for what that's worth.

i don't think wheel availability was determined by engine;  Basically the standard rim for 1/2 tons was  15 x 6 steel.  Aluminum was 15 x 7.  Rally was 15 x 8.

It's in the tech pages:

Also check the 81 brochure:

BTW, the v-6 was not available until 85.  i think you meant straight 6?

Thanks, yeah its looking like that must be what mine has - I''ve got to try to measure them better somehow.

Thanks for the links, I see on that first brochure what you mentioned, 15x6 standard and 15x8 Rally option - so my truck must have 15x6's, just really hard to measure with the tires on. My truck has been converted to the 350 V8 - so I wanted to at least have the appropriate wheels for that engine; although, that said I would like 15x8's regardless when I can afford them!

you could just go to a tire shop and they should be able to measure yours for free
