K10 lift for c10
« on: April 25, 2017, 11:28:47 PM »
Hey yall, im new to this forum and have a question regarding suspension. I have a 1980 c10 and am having trouble finding a lift kit for it. I want to do a 4 inch lift and all i can find is lifts for k10s. Would a k10 lift work on a c10? If not what else could i do to add some height. Thanks!

No way you can lift a c10 4 inches, you can run 1 ton front coil springs with a little work. Gets roughly 2" lift.

Or you can convert to 4wd, then it would look right.

Would that be enough to fit 35s? What about new leaf springs, current ones are kind of sagging

You may want to research what the donk crowd is doing to get caprices, monte carlos, cutlasses etc. up very high.

.....or not.

Is your truck 2wd or 4 wheel drive?

Ok, so fronts are coil springs, rear are leaf springs

I would say with 1 ton coil springs you may be able to fit 33" tires, you could do a body lift, and that could net you a few extra inches to fit 35" tires.

Thanks, would a 3-4 inch body lift alone clear 33s or maybe 35s?

I would say with a 3" body lift you could definitely fit 33" tires, not sure on 35" tires though.

I'd start with a 2" block on the rear springs
And or maybe new springs
The 4 wd rear leafs should fit a 2wd

On the front the one ton springs should get some lift but you could use lift coils from a 4wd vehicle with coils in the front , like a bronco

But living much is going to totally screw up the suspension geometry
But people have been building pre runner type 2 wd pickups for 40 years so it can't be that hard

Hockey pucks are a cheap one inch lift
I wouldn't do more than a 2" body lift
And even that is going to require modifications with the shift linkage , brake lines , steering Column, wiring harness  etc

You can also trim the fenders a little at the bottom corners

Googling "c10 prerunner " and "c10 pre runner "
Brings a lot of info and pictures

you can get lifts for the 2wd. they dont make them for our trucks anymore but you can use the lifted spindles from a 88-98 2wd but you have to adapt your truck to the 88-98 style. but im not sure what you have to change, theres a few on here that know the details
AIM industries used to sell 2WD lift kits, and someone has used a 88-99 2WD lift on our trucks...

Rear would just be a std 2.5" lift blocks
Need Bilstein 5100 extended shocks
For the Front:
88-98 Rough Country lift spindles
88-98 Raybestos PG ball joints
88-98 C2500 LD 6 lugs rotors and calipers
Moog 6454 HD Springs
73-87 C30 lower A-arms
73-87 C10 upper A-arm
You will need to ream out the spindle to fit the 73-87 Tie rod ends...

Other than that, your only option is using 1T coils in front and lift springs in the rear.  How big a tire are you wanting to go to?

according to my math thats about 1192.83 to get the parts for the 5 lug. now saying that you might be able to find a donor 92-98 c1500 and use most of those parts and save
