passenger side fuel sending unit
« on: August 15, 2017, 09:39:26 PM »
So I pulled my tank to replace the sending unit on passenger side.  It has 2 ports attached to fuel lines.  When I am looking at replacements, most have 3 prongs....what is the third prong for?
I have a 6.2 diesel motor that is 1986.
Should I just find a 350 motor sending unit that is 2 prong and replace / call it good? or should I replace with the 3 prong "original" type sending unit?

what does the 3rd prong supposed to be going to?
thanks all
Mark

Third prong is vapor line to a charcoal canister for gas engines, you can plug that line.

Make sure you get the diesel specific in tank sock if you use an in tank sock- a gas sock/strainer will literally stop fuel flow. I'll find the part number for you.

thanks Kaiser,
it appears as if the sending units come with a sock.  I guess the best course of action is to get the diesel specific sending unit (which should have the right sock on it) and plug the third outlet.
thanks for the reply!
