87 Chevy dash gauge cluster part identification
« on: November 04, 2017, 03:36:05 PM »
I will be going to Florida for the winter. I want to pick up a used dash cluster there and restore it
While I'm there. Is there a part number I need to know that will work in my 87? Or anything
Else to  help me.     Thanks.
Jerry

Do you have the electronic cluster? What's wrong with yours? Options impact the configuration, not part number. The components have part numbers, not the assembly.

Vile, thanks for your reply. Yes, my cluster is electronic. My cluster works ok except PO replaced
Oil pressure gauge with a mech type. I want to go back to orig. oil presure gauge. Orig still
In place . Assume some thing is wrong with it. Want to replace the gauge, then a complete
Clean up and brighter 168 bulbs. I thought the Cluster wiring harness was diff for diff models.
I'm learning more and more about these trucks every day, thanks to our members and moderators.
Any recommendations greatly appreciated. If I don't find a cluster in Florida, I'll rework mine when
I get home in spring..oh, is the elec sensor still on top of block by dizzy? I could probably screw
A new one in down by oil filter, then run blue wire to it. Or is it tan wire? I'll have to look at it.
Thanks.

are you sure you're 87 has an electronic speedo? those only came factory in 90-91 squarebodies so if you do in fact have one in an 87 a previous owner must have swapped some things around as the speedo was mechanically cable driven on 89 and earlier squares

Big al, you are right. By electronic dash I was  referring to the oil, alt. and temp gauges only.
Sorry.

no worries, usually when i read about "electronic" squarebody clusters it's the full electronic speedo people are after or some aftermarket cluster

Careful buying a used one

The printer circuit board charged every couple of years and will not match the wire location on your existing plug

You can however move the wires around in the plug if you have diagrams for the year of both the cluster and your truck
