Speedometer jumping

Ok first off I was going to post this under instrumentation but when I went there I could not start a new topic. Had the same problem the other day when I wanted to post about a heater core under hvac again I could not start a topic. Does anyone know why?  1986 c10 4.3 v6 400 turbo a.t. transmission. Speedometer cable was making a noisy so I replaced it with a new one from auto zone. There is no kinks or sharp bends in the cable ran it the exact path of old one. Noise is gone but now from 5 mph to about 35 mph the needle jumps on my speedometer. It did not do this with the old cable. Above 35 mph the needle is steady as it climbs or maintains a ripped above 35 mph.

Thanks for the info but unfortunately I don't see how it applies to my situation. Brand new cable routed the exact same way.  No kinks no sharp bends. Only after replacing noisy speedometer cable did my speedometer needle start jumping. Should I have greased the new cable? I am at a total loss. The speedometer worked perfectly before.

Curious why you replaced the cable if nothing was wrong with it....   

Everything in that document applies to speedometer tick.  Have you checked e/g else on the list?  Begin with the first bullet point.  Plenty of new cables are under lubricated.

In the very first post I said the original cable was making a noise kinda like a scrubbing noise. I thought about greasing it but a new cable was only eight dollars. So like I Said the needle was not jumping and worked perfectly. All but the noise. Now with new cable there is no no noise it is routed exactly like the old one but now the needle jumps between 5 mph and 35 mph. Has anyone experienced  this when replacing their cable. Should I have greased the new cable?

Yes I read the whole thing. I guess I will try and grease new cable.

Greasing the new cable will probably take care of it.  Be sure to wipe the cable totally clean in case some debris was introduced at the factory.  If the tick persists after lubricating the cable, work your way through the list.

I googled my problem it actually took me to a old post on here. The ones from AutoZone don't have a plastic end on the cable where it goes into the speedometer. The other member had this exact problem ordered one from a/c delco $ 22.00 instead of $8.00 and problem solved. Speedometer did not jump anymore.
