You'll love it. My new stock crate does 11's in the qtr mile.

Maybe not 11's but it burns rubber nice and still sounds like a sewing machine,,on purpose.

This engine has vortec heads and a roller cam. Wouldn't this be a better starting point considering the zinc has has been taken out of engine oil? The vortecs flow great and roller cams have much faster valve opening than flat tappet cams. I thought I read vortec heads are worth 30hp over other small block heads. Don't hold me to that, but seems right.

Yeah but cap'n, would that work in an older truck? On the link it says the oldest is a 96.

I had this turnkey engine installed in my '74 back in mid 2015:

I had it done by my local GM dealer because I am woefully unequipped for an engine swap…..and I wanted the warranty.  I know I overpaid, but that's the way life was at the moment.

The biggest problem they ran into was the A/C compressor location.  The original was on the right side of the engine bay, and the new is on the left.  They had some custom A/C hoses made up to get it all back together.

It also turned out that the bolt patterns were different on the flexplates, so I wound up needing a new torque converter.
