Hello!

I was wondering if anyone might have an idea here why a 1984 Chevrolet M1028a3 CUCV K30 (Turned into a fire department brush truck) would die when you let off the fuel quickly, As in you start to drive let off the gas to brake it will die, If you sitting idle it does the same thing, Give it some fuel and it will die if you let off the throttle to fast, If you ease off the throttle it stays running....

Any thoughts or ideas what might be the cause?

Would really like to get this figured out ASAP since this is our only brush truck and its down until we can isolate the problem!

is it still the 6.2? if so there's a governor in the injection pump. and what is happening is the governor is spinning and weight limit the amount of fuel being delivered. and when you let off the gas the governor is still stuck "closed"  limiting the fuel. it should open back up at a certian rpms but due to varnish and wear its stuck. then it dies by not having enough fuel. some say you can take it apart and clean her out and she will be ok. others say buy a new injection pump

this might help page 16 is the disassembly
page 44 is the exploded view 23 is the governor top, item 13 is what sticks. clean up what you can you dont have to remove the pump off the engine. or go past step 7 on the disassembly
