Installing 96 carbed LT1 in a 86 Chevy K10. NEED Help
« on: June 19, 2012, 12:28:21 AM »
I am putting a lt1 that came out of a 96 Chevy caprice into my 86 Chevy k10 truck. When I got the motor it had be converted back to a carb motor. I lowered it in my truck but ran into a problem. The accessories bracket that is on the passenger side of the motor is hitting my frame. It has the alternator at the top. The power steering pump below that. And the a/c delete pulley below that along with the belt tensioner.  ANY HELP OR INFO ON WHAT TO DO WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

Can you get a picture up of the problem. Maybe that will help with finding a solution.
Go ahead hit it with a hammer. Theres only one level of broke.

When you reply to any post just below this box (that you are typing in) is a "attachments and other options" place.  You click on it and it will allow you to download pictures from your computer with a size restriction.  Give it a try...

I'm sorry, I don't know.  Is it too much to be able to notch the frame and weld a box back in?  Just curious, does that engine have a distributor?  How do you get rid of optispark to run with no ecm?

The motor is converted back to carburated intake. I just didn't have the distributor in it at the time I took the picture. Left the plug in it do no trash would get in the hole during the installation. But as far as the optispark distributor I removed in and installed a cover plate that I purchased. And as far as putting a box in the frame I wanna try to keep from doing that.

Might want to hit the junkyard and find a accessory drive from a 4.3 s10, that would probably solve that fiasco and keep the serpentine.

The 4.3 is basically a 350, minus a couple cylinders. I believe the mounting system is the same. Iirc the drive system just bolts on

I pulled one off a 96 and bolted up to my 79.

The LT1 is a different beast.  The sbc and 4.3 brackets won't bolt up.  I didn't think they would, but did a little internet browsing to be sure.  After a little reading, it looks like you have a common problem.  Some use Corvette accessory brackets or aftermarket brackets like March.  That's an expensive option.  There was also a mention of notching the frame for clearance to install into a truck, but I didn't see a year or body style mentioned.
