Title: 1/8th Mile Times?
Post by: dmiller2222 on October 01, 2009, 10:25:26 PM
Has anyone run their truck in the 1/8th?

Took mine out last Friday:
1979 K-10 Longbed, 4-speed w/granny gear, stock shortblock with L31 heads and performer RPM intake/600cfm carb, 3:73 gears and 33X12:50 mud-tires 9.418@ 76.18MPH

I ran 1/4mile, but they clocked my 1/8 at 8.3sec.  What does your truck weigh?  Did you launch it in 4WD or 2WD?

4,938 lbs with me in it. The tuck was launched in 2nd gear (granny-gear too low) and in 2wd with a 60' time of 2.38.

I figure I have a few .10s left in it mostly in the first 60' (traction/wheel hop problems), and the time it takes for the 2-3 shift as well as the associated traction loss on the up-shift. This week I dialed in the pinion angle and have fabbed-up/added a cross-member in the rear with an adjustable pinion snubber (lets hope this controls the hop and adds a little traction).  I will keep you updated; I plan to head back to the track next Friday.

Can you snap a few pictures of that pinion snubber?

That's pretty darn good for that combo. That equates to somewhere in the high 14s, low 15s but then again, these trucks tend to fall flat on their face in the last 1/8 due to being a truck, brick-wall aerodynamics, and high torque, low revving motors.

LOL. That's cool.

Dmiller...your truck is moving pretty good.  Like SUX2BU99 said, it converts to mid-high 14's in the 1/4mile.

Wow maybe there is hope for my 86 k10 after all! Lol if i can get my truck to run low 9s in the 1/8th ill be happy as heck! I just droped in a 350 .040 with some 601heads 214/224 .444/.466 112cam 2800 stall th350 and 3.42s front and rear long tubes. Edelbrock 600carb and a factory aluminum intake. My 82 ta with a 3500stall the same cam in.a 305 and 3.73s is good for around a 8.5

team39763,

I will get some pictures for you this weekend, I tried a few with the cell phone cam but they did not turnout so well. I ran the truck Friday with the snubber and had a number of runs with 2.2 60' times ( getting me into the 9.3s in the 1/8th @ 77mph with the 60' about .2 better than my average before the snubber) but with the added traction I am running into a bog out of the hole I am either burning the tires or bogging it down.  I will play around with the metering rod rate springs before my next outing to see if I can eliminate that. Though the truck ran some 2.2 60's I feel that if I could eliminate the bog I could gain and easy .2s getting down into the 2.0s for 60's. I do know one thing for sure the burnouts in the box are silky smooth with the snubber (zero wheel hop)

What cam are you running and what exhaust setup?

Headers: Summit SUM-G9006-9
Mufflers: (2) WLK-24215
2 1/2" dual exhaust with H-pipe (both exhaust pipes exit drivers side in-front of rear tire)
Cam: COMP Cams XE262H (262/270 adv duration, 218/224 duration at .050, .462/.469 valve lift, 110 lobe separation)
The set-up idles silky smooth @ 700rpm and is pretty durable (closing in on 95,000 miles)

Seems like a good setup! Your cam is just a touch bigger than mine. Mines 214/224 .444/466 112lsa. If my setup could pull my rig into the mid 9s in the 1/8 id be very happy! Sounds like you found a setup that really works.

I made my first pass with the new motor this past sunday. It ran a 8.5 in the 1/8 and 13.36 in the 1/4 on street tires. Time for caltracs and drag radials.

9.30's for a truck of that size is doing well (especially for that tranny)!
 Wifey goes 7.60's @ 89mph normally, best has been 7.54 @ 90mph with a 1.63 60'    Lorne
